In order to do that it is critical to be aware of the job site conditions, listen to the superintendent, watch the progress of trades in front of your work and if there is a master schedule watch to see if it changes on a regular basis. Recent projects have been difficult to project because we listen to only one source of information. Balance all the information you can gather and you will be much better of with decisions on when to order material, start production and deliver on time.

Make the decision

Seems that we listen to the media when we shouldn't and don't listen when we should. Finally some good news from the media. I just hope that the group that needs to make the decisions to purchase will make it soon. With all the clients that could move ahead but don't would help my business catch up. Yes it will take awhile but it's a start. Come on... make the decision to move ahead with that project. Now is the right time.

Who's in charge

When on a jobsite who do you take instructions from? The owner or the contractor? Who is writing the check and who hired you? When a jobsite discrepency comes up how do you bring it up to the owner without making the contractor or the architect feel like they have been thrown under the bus?
These are questions that came up today for Marc. An estimater that has great integrity and would never do anything but his best for his clients. I trust that this will not come back to bite us with the work we do for this contractor and architect. In a time that we need all the allies possible sometime the honest choices we make could hurt us in the short term.
